Olympic bronze medalist Rajindra Campbell has apologised to Jamaica for making the harsh decision to switch allegiance to Turkey, but says it was a necessary step to take to prolong his career and pay his bills.

Campbell, along with Olympic discus champion Roja Stona, Olympic long jump silver medalist Wayne Pinnock, and the World Under 20 triple jump record holder Jaydon Hibbert, have all decided to stop representing Jamaica after receiving life-changing financial rewards and benefits from the oil-rich country to represent them instead.
However, Campbell, speaking for the first time since the revelation on the Coaches Desk podcast, said it's about time he gets the benefits from his talent.
Campbell added that the JAAA's dropped the ball by ditching the proposal from Adidas to become the new national sponsor, as it had elements that would have made athletes receive benefits.

Meanwhile, the President of the Jamaica Olympic Association, Christopher Samuda, has suggested some solutions that could stem the exodus of Jamaican athletes to other countries, squarely based on financial benefits.
Samuda is also calling for the reconvening of the National Sports Council. He posited that just like how the National Sports Council was able to formalize the national health and life insurance for the country’s athletes, the same can be done to look at other areas.
